When you hear the word enlightenment, it’s easy to wander off in your mind to some far away peaceful land of meditation and chanting, but in reality enlightenment just means to have some sort of spiritual understanding or knowledge. Everyone has embarked on a search for enlightenment at some point in their lives because we all want answers; we want to know the meaning of life. Ultimately we want to know the reason for us and form our own opinions on what we believe about God.
Sometimes we are so desperate for an understanding of spirituality that we will believe the first thing we hear, or make up our own beliefs. That’s the reason why there are thousands of religions and belief systems, because people all over the world that are struggling for answers to their complex spiritual questions would rather make up their own beliefs than continue their search for the truth.
Luckily, we have been provided with the truth that we have been searching for. The God of the Bible, maker of the Heavens and Earth, put a desire for truth inside of each and every one of us with the hopes that we would seek and find Him. That’s why we are so desperate for enlightenment; we want to know why we are here and when we try to find these answers through made up religions and false answers we are left deceived and unsatisfied. There is one true God that created us and desires to know us, and His love has been explained through the truth of the Bible and displayed by His son Jesus.
“So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” Luke 11:9-10
“Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6
“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.” Psalm 19:1
God, I believe that your word is truth, that you are the one true God. Thank you for revealing yourself to me, and giving me your holy word. Help me Lord to continue to find truth in you and grow in my love for you, Heavenly Father. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
