MS Skate Ministry constantly receives emails and messages from people asking for help and insight on how to reach skateboarders with the Love of Christ. Whether it is a teenage skateboarder or a 40-year-old parent, these people have a burden to reach their skate community and are looking for a way to do so.

“Landing Bolts” is a 12-week lesson plan designed specifically to help those people reach skateboarders with the Good News of Jesus. In skateboarding, “landing bolts” is a term that describes landing a trick the best way possible; our goal with this lesson plan is to provide a resource for leaders to ultimately guide skateboarders into the best possible relationship with Christ.

“Landing Bolts” is a mobile friendly carefully designed resource to help you communicate the truth of the Gospel in any environment. Our goal with “Landing Bolts” is to see new skateboarding small groups start and existing ministries grow through this curriculum. You don’t have to have your own private facility, a college degree in ministry, or huge financial backing; all you need is a heart for God and a burden to see skateboarders following Jesus. It doesn’t matter if there are only 3 of you or 30, or if you are meeting at your local skate spot, or your own ministry skate park; we believe that God wants to work through you to see skateboarders know and grow in the Love of their Heavenly Father.

Each lesson will begin with a devotional video featuring a professional skateboarder (that could be shown on your smartphone, laptop, projector, etc), followed by relevant questions to intentionally spark spiritual discussion amongst the group. As the leader, your goal is to guide the discussion towards the overall point of that week’s lesson. After discussion, the leader will read and expand on the closing points and scripture, and then end with a time of prayer.

Don’t be afraid to get creative. Whether you meet every Wednesday at the local skate park, or once a month at a Church, feel free to think outside the box with your meetings. Have games of S.K.A.T.E before or after, give out pizza, sing songs…ultimately only you know what will work best with your group. Overall your main responsibility as a leader is to Love. Love God and ask Him to work in you and use you. Love the skateboarders, listen and empathize with them. Love them the same way that Christ has loved us, and in doing so hopefully they can know and grow in the love of their Heavenly Father.

We know that God does not call the equipped but He equips the Called, and our prayer is that “Landing Bolts” can be used to help you in the mission of sharing Jesus with skateboarders!
